Hey y’all! I wanted to give you a peek into my 4th of July decor that I’ve been absolutely loving. It’s so easy to pick up affordable, beautiful and seasonal decor for your home without breaking the bank. So, there’s been a few things here and there I have made, thrifted or bought new. Keep on scrolling to see!
Decorating with thrift store items for the 4th of July!
I have found so many cute patriotic items at the thrift stores, you have to go when you’re not looking for anything in particular. I found this pewter, 1776, Americana mug at a local thrift store for only $3… what a steal! Also, my mom gifted me these adorable hand-painted, American flags off Etsy. (Shop small!)
When you decorate for the holidays with thrift store items, I feel it just makes a home a home! Also, it adds a level of uniqueness to your home that modern store items can’t get you. Although, don’t get me wrong, I love me some Hobby Lobby.
Search for things that you wouldn’t normally think of getting, and find a unique purpose for it. For instance this mug, there are multiple uses for it and I chose flags. Think outside the box and be creative, I know you can do it!
Also, I found this adorable, patriotic pitcher at the same thrift store. It is Princess House and the name of it is “Country Fair.” I fell in LOVE with it the moment I saw it. I knew good and well it was going to be home for many fresh flowers this summer.
Always be on the lookout for seasonal items all year round. For instance, just because it’s summer, if you find a unique Halloween item, grab it! I promise you’ll use it when the time comes around. (Just don’t accumulate a lot of clutter!)
That’s the fun thing about curating home decor that you truly love.. you do it knowing you love the item and will get years of use out of it.
Shop small business and local businesses
Go to your local antique store or shop a small business on Etsy! I grabbed this cute little basket and mini shelf at our local antique store. I love decorating it for each season/holiday, it is my favorite!
The hand painted flag, and the mini cross stitched pillow both came from Etsy. I dried some fresh eucalyptus from our local grocer and placed it in the mini basket. It’s all so simple, but makes a statement.
There are so many small businesses out there who make and sell things for the different holidays. You can find so many unique and different pieces for your home.
We have a local vintage shop that they had turned a 100 year old home into a store. They are constantly redecorating and bringing in new items for each season. While my husband and I were shopping, we saw this pillow on their Facebook page. I knew I HAD to get it. It looks so perfect on our couch that I may need to go back for one more.
Find those local shops to support and keep going back to see what they might have out new. I will always be an advocate for shopping small. I know the importance of it in owning my own local business.
Hobby Lobby for 4th of July decor
About Hobby Lobby, I could go on and on and on. But, I don’t have to tell y’all about the Hobby Lobby addiction, if you know you know.
Going to Hobby Lobby for every seasonal decor need, is one of your best bets. I love finding a new garland for our fireplace each season, except winter because I know we will be using the fireplace.
I purchased this garland about a week ago and it was 40 percent off, steal! When we go to Hob Lob, I know I will always be able to get something for our home at an affordable price.
Don’t be afraid to DIY 4th of July decor
From Hobby Lobby, I purchased some festive fabric and started creating. I sewed these mini flags and this banner. I’m still pretty new to sewing but I know enough to make what I need.
After I made these flags, I placed them in my Ironstone creamer that I got for $4 (also a steal!) The regular flags were also purchased at Hobby Lobby as well. So, I just mixed them with my handmade flags.
The banner was made with cotton string, scrap fabric and an Ikea dishtowel! I threw them together and created it, no pattern or anything. If I ever make a banner again, I will post a tutorial. I’m almost positive I will be making this again, they’re just so darn easy to make.
My thoughtful friend had given me this white pillow, and I made a cover for it. I used the same Ikea dishtowel and scrap fabric for this project as well. Normally, I do not use tutorials when I create things. If I think of something, I just do it and hope it turns out well.
Progress over perfection
Decorating our home is still a work in progress. Take your time in decorating your home no matter the season, curate items that you actually love. Also, items that you know you will enjoy for years and years to come. Don’t buy things just to have and fill your home with, knowing in a year or so it will end up being donated.
Thoughtfully making a home isn’t a race, it’s a marathon. Take the time to enjoy the season of your home no matter the state. One day you’ll have it exactly where you want it, but if not, just enjoy the progress of it all. Progress over perfection!
I hope this post has inspired you to be mindful and creative about decorating your home. Let me know in the comments below on how you decorate your home for the 4th of July! Do you go all out, or do you keep it simple?
