So you’ve seen this shelf for Fall, now let’s take you on a tour of my rustic farmhouse shelf decor for the Christmas season! This shelf is one of my favorite pieces to decorate at the moment for the holiday season, I’ve added in some natural elements and Christmas vintage finds. If you’re like me in any way, you enjoy the hunt to find the most perfect festive touches to your Christmas decor.
Some of my favorite places to shop for things to fit my personal style are antique stores, thrift shops, and local vintage stores. We have the PERFECT vintage shop here in town and it has the perfect mix of farmhouse style, vintage, and rustic home decor. Additionally, whenever I can shop local AND vintage, I’m a happy gal.

Now that it’s my favorite time of the year to decorate, I’m so excited to share all of my rustic farmhouse/cottage finds with y’all. So, I have been searching a lot trying to curate the most perfect items for my shelf in the dining room. Most likely, I will add more items to it as the season goes on, but I love how it looks at the moment so I’m going to go ahead and share with y’all what I have right now.
If you want to know more about where I purchased this shelf from and the history I have with it, you can read about it here! I love the personality and character it brings to our dining room. Also, I love to decorate it with each season and holiday that comes and goes! To me, the shelf is a wonderful focal point whenever you’re in our living room looking in.

What I like to use for my rustic farmhouse shelf decor
While my personal style isn’t just farmhouse or rustic, it’s also a mix of cottage, primitive, and country. I like to be able to incorporate all different types of rustic Christmas decorations into my style for holiday decor. While all y’all know I love shopping for vintage and antique finds, I still enjoy some decorations from Hobby Lobby. (especially the faux greenery).
Also in my decor, you’ll find natural elements such as pine cones, branches, and sometimes dried leaves. I made a DIY holly wreath and it turned out so beautifully. It’s so easy to be able to make your own if you want to bring the outside in, I put mine on our front door. That’s one thing I really enjoy adding to the rustic feel of decor, is bringing the seasons into our home. In the spring and summer, fresh flowers, in the Fall, pinecones, leaves, and branches. It’s free decor that you can give back to the earth when you’re finished! No over-consumerism, yay!
I also love to scour the Facebook marketplace. It’s become slightly an addiction to searching for the perfect pieces of furniture to purchase. I think I can be cut some slack though, we just moved into our home and it feels so empty! I’m trying to curate the perfect pieces I know we’re going to love for a very long time instead of just hopping to Ikea to buy something that will be trashed in a year.
Yummy candles
On my rustic farmhouse shelf with my Christmas decor, you’ll also find my favorite yummy candles from Antique Candle Co. These candles are all-natural, toxin-free, and cotton wick candles. They’re a company I love and I love what they stand for as well. To start our Christmas with the smells of the season, I’m burning one of my favorites, Tree Farm! You can shop for yummy-smelling candles here.

Some of my favorite items to incorporate
A few of my favorite items that I like to incorporate into my Christmas decor are things like Ironstone, bottlebrush trees, Christmas plates, red berries, and vintage Christmas items. Old books also add that extra touch of rustic charm as well. There are just so many creative ways to achieve the Christmas farmhouse look with the rustic designs you’re going for. I hope this gives you a few ideas on how to decorate that empty shelf you have.
What items I’m using on my rustic farmhouse Christmas shelf
So, as I’ve mentioned, scouring secondhand stores is my favorite thing so most of my items are secondhand! Big box store Christmas items are great and all, but vintage just has my heart. There’s so much love and character in vintage holiday collectibles, they add such simple nostalgic touches to any festive farmhouse shelf.
Mini Christmas trees in vintage containers

Also, you’ll see some mini Christmas trees on my shelf, I think they make such a great addition to my farmhouse Christmas decorations. I love adding them anywhere I can. I’ve plopped one tree into my vintage Dundee marmalade jar that I got from the antique store.
These mini trees are such an easy way to spice up your rustic Christmas decorations. I also love that we’ve added some to my mini copper pot that I found at an antique mall.

Vintage Santas
Another thing I like to use on my Christmas shelf is vintage Santas! I absolutely love the look of vintage Santas, they add so much character to any shelf, table, or cabinet. They’re starting to be one of the new things I look for at thrift and antique stores, I’m trying to start a small collection of them just because I’ve grown to love them so much.
I got this adorable Santa ornament from our local vintage store and I tied a pretty velvet ribbon I purchased from Amazon, I will link it down below!

Also, I found this other Santa figurine, I LOVE how his beard makes him into a Christmas tree XD. So, this is exactly what I mean by they add so much character! I believe you would have a hard time finding this in a big box store.

Also, I found this vintage Santa plate at my local thrift store! They had it for 5.99, I went to pay for it up at the front and she said they overpriced it so I ended up getting it for 2.99. I did not mind paying the 5.99 but I am not going to argue a discount! This shelf has a built-in lip just for plates so he can be displayed perfectly on it.

Red berries and holly cuttings
Additionally, adding red berries and holly cuttings to your decor really adds festive pops to your rustic farmhouse Christmas decor. Just a few sprigs here and there really adds umph and it’s such an easy idea.

I also like to head outside to our holly tree and cut some branches to make a beautiful Christmas bouquet. You can read about how I made a DIY Christmas wreath out of holly cuttings too!
Ironstone
As y’all probably know I collect vintage ironstone, and my collection is slowly growing. I’m having fun finding the perfect pieces for our home. Decorating with Ironstone throughout the year is my favorite thing, it’s timeless and beautiful. I placed my mini trees and red berries in them to add a little bit of razzle dazzle to them.

Vintage Silver
For the festive season, I like to add vintage silver items. To me, vintage silver just adds a beautiful rustic touch to any holiday decor. I picked up these vintage silver Christmas tree candle holders at Goodwill, for some reason they were selling them all separately and not together as a set. I bought them all I couldn’t just buy one of them KNOWING they all are a little family. However, I am still trying to decide if I want to try to polish them or leave them the way they are, slightly tarnished. Honestly, I think the tarnished look adds a bit of the rustic farmhouse charm to my Christmas shelf.

Adding to my vintage silver, I found these adorable little French horn ornaments at a local antique store. I got them for 50% off and they were about 50 cents each! What a deal. They’re vintage sterling silver and I added some more velvet ribbon to them as well. I may move them to our Christmas tree, but I’m not sure! It’s fun just playing around with your decor in different places in the house. The dining area is my focal point today though.

Vintage and rustic trees
I found this little blue pottery bowl at an antique store for $4! I filled it with a vintage farmhouse Christmas tree. They add just the perfect amount of that rustic holiday cheer. If you wanted to add some vintage red bows you could also do that as well. Additionally, you could find some small vintage candy canes and hang them from the trees!

I hope y’all enjoyed this little tour of my favorite shelf with some of my favorite things on it. I have some fun pieces and I’m still searching for more rustic touches to it. Leave a comment below and let me know what style you like for your Christmas decor!
I’m so thankful for y’all and I’m also so grateful that Baby was born in the manger so we can celebrate Jesus’ birth. He is the real reason for the season, not the overspending of gifts, all the food preparations, and the hustle and bustle. This season is meant to be a quiet season reflecting on our Savior but it can get lost in the madness with the overconsumption and over consumerism that has been forced upon us. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to do big and fun things, I just think we also need to step back and have those quiet moments to reflect.
Thank y’all for stoppin’ by and I hope you all have a Merry Christmas!
