It’s that time of year again, and I have a new shelf to adorn with rustic fall farmhouse decor! I’m so excited to decorate for Fall this year, I have so many fun ideas to decorate my shelf with.
When it comes to rustic, farmhouse style, primitive furniture, I love to scour the Facebook marketplace for unique finds. One day, I was looking through and I found this amazing shelf for sale for only $75. What a STEAL! So, when I went to go pick it up with my aunt. When we went to go pay for it, we found out that the owner and his wife were from Sweden. They had told me they picked it up from Amish country in Pennsylvania.
A beautiful and unique handmade piece. I love finding rustic pieces of furniture and decor with stories behind them, it brings so much personality to our home. So, I placed this above our dining room table, and our dining room flows right into the living room. It looks so beautiful as you exit our living room into our dining.
Now, for the time of the year, I have been waiting to decorate this shelf. I absolutely love decorating for the autumn season with all the different colors and rustic elements.
So, grab a cup of coffee or a pumpkin spice latte, let’s get into how I am placing my decor on this rustic farmhouse shelf for the fall season.
What I like to use for my rustic farmhouse fall shelf decor
There are quite a few different elements and textures I like to use for my decor. My style is a mix of primitive, cottage, and rustic farmhouse.
So, one of the first places I like to shop for rustic decor to match my aesthetic is the Facebook marketplace. Additionally, some of my favorite places to shop for vintage and antique finds include a local antique store, thrift stores, and shopping at a local market.
There are so many great finds you can use for your home decor and DIY projects. With this shelf, I love the natural wood and rustic natural elements it gives. I absolutely love that I found it off the Facebook marketplace. So, when you scour the marketplace, you can find some great deals for your rustic Fall decor.
So, things I like to use for my Fall home decor are vintage items, antique items, and pretty much anything that is unique and has character. For natural materials in my decor, I like to use pine cones, natural wood, fresh flowers, Fall greenery, and pumpkins.
Now, for the rustic farmhouse feel and style, I use vintage pieces like ironstone, a wooden dough bowl, vintage plates, and some copper. To me, adding different elements and textures, make a huge difference when it comes to home decor.
Then, to add in some simple Fall touches, I throw in some white pumpkins, faux leaves, rustic flowers from Hobby Lobby, and some orange pumpkins for a pop of color. It’s such an easy way to get the rustic fall farmhouse look. Additionally, when you add neutral colors and classic fall colors, it’s such a great way to give it that beautiful fall look.
What Items I’m Using On My Shelf
So, as I mentioned earlier, I scour thrift and antique stores! Some things I have been given by my mom and they have been in the family for many generations. I think it’s such a good idea to incorporate family heirlooms into your home too.
Dough Bowls
Now, the first item I want to talk about (other than the shelf) is this amazing wooden dough bowl. I picked this beauty up at the largest antique mall in the South. It was only $25, it isn’t old but it is handmade. So, I just tossed in some faux pumpkins and Fall potpourri (it smells absolutely amazing). Additionally, dough bowls are the perfect way to add natural and rustic elements for the harvest season. I love to use them all year round and change out the greenery in them for each season.
Additionally, I like to use them as a fall centerpiece for our dining table. Also, I have this beautiful antique dough bowl that is a family heirloom, I am the 5th generation to proudly own it.
Ironstone
The next item is Ironstone! All year round, I love to have my Ironstone displayed. They’re such fun, vintage finds to place on a shelf. I placed some fall baby breath from Hobby Lobby in them sporadically to give them some life.
You could add ironstone filled with all different kinds of greenery for the different seasons. I love Hobby Lobby for its greenery, you can also find great greenery on Amazon. So, you can find ironstone at a lot of thrift stores, I have found all three of mine at different antique stores.
Copper
My next item for your rustic Fall shelf decor is copper. I love decorating with copper for the Fall season (and all year round), it adds such a nice warm essence to your home and decor.
I found these few copper pieces at different antique shops, I love all the creative ways I can place and use them. You can watch my youtube video describing some of my favorite thrift finds here.
Additional Fall Pieces I’ve Incorporated
Also, other items I have on my shelf are vintage crocks, vintage pumpkin containers, amber glass bottles, and orange pumpkins scattered about. I have found all of the items on this shelf from either thrift, antique, or gifted!
You can absolutely decorate a shelf for the style you’re going for within a budget. However, I love to look at the more expensive things, I know when I look I can find them cheaper secondhand.
My DIY For My Rustic Fall Farmhouse Shelf
So, for this simple DIY for my rustic Fall shelf, I purchased this handmade dough bowl from an antique mall. Then, I headed on over to Hobby Lobby and snagged some of their Fall potpourri and placed it into the dough bowl.
The potpourri that I purchased, contains pinecones, leaves, orange slices, and more! Also, I scattered some orange and white small pumpkins into the mix. It kills two birds with one stone! Bird one, it smells amazing! It fills our home with the scents of fall and #2 it’s so pretty and cozy! It’s such a simple way to DIY your own decor for Autumntime.
I hope this has given you some great inspiration for decorating your own shelf for the upcoming season! So, let me know in the comments how you plan to decorate your rustic farmhouse shelf for Fall. I’d love to hear! Thanks for stoppin’ by y’all!
