I don’t know about you, but I love a simple DIY, especially this easy Christmas Wreath! It’s almost that time of year again. So, what better way than to ring it in with a Christmas Wreath for your front door?
I will also be showing you different ways you can hang the wreath with ribbon as well. It’s super easy, and to me, the best way to hang it!
While there are a few different ways you can make and hang your Christmas wreaths, this is just the style and the easiest way I’ve found. I love being able to whip up this quick and beautiful DIY for our home. I may just make more!
This is my and my husband’s first year and first Christmas in our new home, and I could not be more excited about this great idea for the Christmas season. In our small condo last year, I did what I could with the little bit of space we had. So, this year, I plan to decorate all out! I’ve already told my husband I want to get a real Christmas tree this year! I’ve gotten a real one once before, and it’s one of my favorite ways to celebrate the season.
Now, onto the tutorials! Only a few things are needed for this easy DIY, keep on reading to see how you can make your own.
Why you should make your own Christmas wreath
While there are many ways I could say why you should make your own, I’ll give you a few. The first being it’s always so wonderful to have something handmade in your home. There’s nothing like adding a beautiful and personal touch to your home. To me, homemade stuff in one’s home is the most inviting home.
Another reason why, it is cheaper! Store-bought wreaths are so expensive, they’re beautiful but expensive. So, with this DIY Christmas wreath, it’s a great way to save a little bit of money AND be able to customize your wreath. You can copy this exact one, or you can make it your own! You could add in little forest animals, snowflakes, snowmen, Santa, you name it.
It’s going to look amazing in your home next year and many years after that if you take care of it.
How to make this adorable DIY Christmas wreath
So, this DIY is so simple, it only requires a couple of tools and items. If you want to add any extras or customize it in any way, you can! I may experiment with different wreath designs for the holiday season after this wreath!
What you will need for this DIY Christmas wreath:
Bottle brush Christmas tree pack
Wide burlap ribbon or any wide ribbon you choose
Fake snow (optional)
Now, for the fun part! You can let your creative juices flow with this wreath, or you can make it exactly like this one.
To start, heat your glue gun and set it to the side.
Next, you’re going to gather your grapevine wreath and bottle brush trees.
Once your hot glue gun has been heated, glue the bottle brush trees to the inside of the wreath. Place them as spaced out or as close together as you would like.
You can spray fake snow on the wreath to add snow to the scene, or you can leave it plain.
Now, you’re going to need to figure out where you want to hang it. You will want to make sure you measure correctly for it to hang where you want it to hang. For this tutorial, I will be showing you the measurements for the length of the ribbon, to hang it on your front door. If you want to get smaller grapevine wreaths for your type of windows, you will need to measure from the top of your window to the middle. Then, make sure that’s where you want it to hang.
Ribbon measurements
Now, for the first ribbon that hangs the wreath. You’re going to take your piece of wide ribbon, measure it to 3ft or 36 inches, and then cut the length of the ribbon. It does not matter how you cut the ends of the ribbon, since we are going to be knotting the ends and tying a bow to put over it.
Side note: If you hang the ribbon over the back of the door with the upside-down command hook, you won’t need to tie a bow.
If you hang it how I am doing it, you will need to tie a bow.
how to tie the ribbon and the bow
So now, you’re going to grab the piece of ribbon you just cut and tie it onto the wreath. To do so, you will put one end of the ribbon through the top of the wreath. Next, you will tie a knot at the end of the ribbon, leaving 1-2 inches of leeway fabric.
Then, you’re going to take another piece of ribbon and cut it at 4ft or 36in. Then, tie a bow with it and hot glue it over the knot to hide it. Now, hang where desired. I am hanging this on my front door at eye level, or a little lower.

ways to hang the wreath with ribbon
While there are many different methods for hanging your wreath from pretty ribbon, I am going to list the best methods for hanging it. To me, I think the fan favorite here for doors is clear command hooks! Although, it’s all in what you like and how you like your DIY home decor placed.
How to hang from your front door:
You can use these door wreath hangers for the top of the door. They just hang over the top side of the door, and you just hang the piece of ribbon from the door hanger. It’s such an easy way to hang it.
If you want a different option, you can always use these Command door hooks. They leave zero residue and you can remove them whenever you want. Both of these options will hold the weight of your wreath just fine! You won’t have to worry if it’s too heavy for it, these are some of the best methods for hanging them from your door. I used command door hooks for this project.
You can also hang a command hook upside down on the backside of the door. Then, hang the ribbon from that hook over the top of the door, to the outside of the door.
How to hang from interior windows and exterior windows:
For exterior windows, you can use these Screw Hooks. If you use the Screw Hook, screw it into the siding above the window, and slide open the bottom of your window. Then, remove the screen, and reach up above to hang your wreath. You can also hang it from the inside of your window. Measure the top of the window to the middle, and that’s how long you want to cut your ribbon. Then, tie a knot on the end of the ribbon, and close the window to secure it.
For interior windows, you can use suction hooks. They’re so simple to use, and they don’t ruin your windows. Or, you can use these clear Command Window hooks, they work so great for holding your wreath.
How to hang a wreath from glass doors:
Just like the interior windows, you can use large suction hooks or the command strip hook! If you’re hanging heavier wreaths, you will want to maybe add a second hook to give it more support. I am also using a command hook for glass to show you how well it works!
How to hang the wreath from brick
The best way to hang a wreath from brick is absolutely Brick Clips! There is no drilling, nailing, or thumbtacks involved, you just put the wreath up and hang it. So convenient for when you don’t have a drill or you don’t want to put any holes in your brick.
How I am hanging my DIY Christmas Wreath
So, while there are so many different and amazing ways to hang your wreath, I am going to hang it on the front of the door. It will keep it a little safer from the elements and give our back deck some razzle-dazzle. I hope this tutorial for making your very own DIY Christmas wreath and how to hang it, has given you some inspiration for this upcoming season! I think I will be keeping this wreath up all of this winter season, just because it’s so darling.
