- 1/2 cup cold butter

- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp of additional melted butter

- 1 tsp orange zest (to give it that orange flavor)
- 1 cup whole milk (cold) (or 1 cup of buttermilk)
- 1 tsp salt
Making the orange cranberry bisconie:
There is very little preparation time for this favorite recipe, to start you will just need to preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then while your oven is preheating, mix your Bisconie dough.
In a large bowl, whisk together your dry ingredients. Add your cups of flour, baking powder, baking soda, 1/4 cup sugar, and salt.
Next, add in the cold butter and cut it with a fork or pastry blender. Then, add in your whole milk and orange zest. Mix well until everything is combined and a soft dough forms.
On a lightly floured countertop, pour the dough onto the counter and knead in the fresh (or frozen) cranberries. Once kneaded, flatten out the dough and cut into squares, triangles, or circles. Your preference! I am doing rough triangles. Also, I love the rustic look of the uneven triangles.
Brush melted butter on top of the Bisconies before placing in the oven. It’s also optional to add additional lemon zest and brown sugar.
Place them on an ungreased baking sheet, and place them into your preheated oven. Bake them in the oven for 15-20 min or until golden brown.
Once they are out of the oven, transfer them to a wire cooling rack and serve when cool!
These will have a crumbly texture and that’s how they’re supposed to be!

If you want to freeze them, just place them either in a freezer-safe container or, wrap in plastic wrap then in tinfoil, and place them in the freezer. These will last up to three months in the freezer. To thaw, just set them out until they have reached room temperature.
