Y’all, Halloween is my favorite type of year, and I love decorating our beautiful, cozy fireplace and mantel for the fall season. There are so many ways you can decorate your spooky Halloween mantel. This year, I am choosing to go more cozy, vintage, and slightly minimal.
This is my first time ever being able to decorate a huge mantel/fireplace! I could not be more excited. So, I have been on the HUNT for all things Halloween for the Halloween season and it is so much fun. Thrift stores, antique stores, amazon, you name it. I’m always looking for great finds at great deals. If you’re like me, you like balling on a budget and finding budget-friendly Halloween mantel ideas to go by.
There is nothing quite like finding unique items at secondhand stores to place in your home. Sometimes, you can find cool vintage Halloween pieces.
I’m so excited to watch scary movies and hocus pocus cozied up with our simple Halloween mantel.
My Cozy Halloween Fireplace and Mantel
To start, here is an overview of our amazing fireplace and mantel. I LOVE this fireplace. It’s such a statement and focal point in our living room, it brings so much character and charm. The brick has been whitewashed, and for our mantel, it’s an upcycled piece of wood. The way the wood works with the whitewashed brick gives it brand new life. It’s absolutely my favorite spot in our home at the moment.
Throughout the season, I may be adding more white pumpkins, black crows, spider webs, and more! Keep reading til the end to see what fun creative idea I add to our fireplace mantel decor!
Adding brass to your cozy Halloween fireplace and mantel
One of my recently found thrift store finds is these gorgeous brass taper candlestick holders. I got them for $4 each at our local antique store. The best part is the sellers were having a 50% off sale so they were originally $8 each. I couldn’t pass up that deal for these bad boys. The orange taper candle is from World Market but you can also find them here.
My number one tip for adding vintage cozy to your fireplace and mantel is adding brass! It makes a world of difference to your cozy Halloween decor. Hit up your local thrift shop or antique store to score some vintage brass! If all else fails, ask your grandma for some gold candle holders.
You could also add in some black candle holders as well. Black always adds a nice touch for Halloween in your own home.
Find unique Halloween pieces throughout the year! So, you will definitely get a better deal at thrift and antique stores for Halloween decor at any other time of the year. We have a local vintage store and they have so much cool stuff for each season/holiday. I picked up the little witch hat candle there for $3! Honestly, I fell in love with it the minute I saw it. It’s so unique and perfect for our mantel.
Give the local craft stores a look!
Always check out your local retail craft stores! Sometimes you can find great things for cheap in their Halloween section. Sure, some may be cheesy, but, if you use some creativity you can find some great items. You can also make your own decor as well! Like these clay ghosts, I just grabbed some clay and made some adorable light-up ghosts.
The fall garland is also from Hobby Lobby! They always have such a great selection of holiday garlands to choose from.
For the other side of the mantel, I have the matching brass candle and holder. I also have this smaller pewter taper candle and holder that my mom gifted me. Also, I also adore black cats, so, I have to incorporate them! I own two of them so it’s only fitting. I bought this vintage-inspired, sitting cat from Michaels! They had so many good black cat finds last year, I bought quite a few of their different ones.
I love finding the perfect place for my black cat finds on our spooky mantel. It’s such a fun way to decorate.
Use Vintage for your Halloween decor
For me, I love the vintage look of crocks all year round. For the bottom, I threw in my old favorite throw blanket which is one of the most perfect autumn colors. I tossed in faux pumpkins and mini pumpkins that are made from fabric on top of the blanket. It’s such a great way to add a soft touch to your vintage Halloween mantel. My mom gave me the “Happy Halloween” sign and the pumpkin blow molds.
Halloween blow molds add such a cute spooky look to your Halloween fireplace decor. So, I added one to each side, one was given to me by my great-grandma as well. I love vintage decor gifted to me from loving family members, it is a great way to decorate.
Lanterns and candles
Y’all already know where I’m going with this! Black lanterns are the perfect thing to add to your spooky Halloween mantel. But, they also keep it cozy! You can find black lanterns really anywhere, you might just get lucky at an antique or thrift store. This one was white and I painted it black.
Also, I added this black cauldron that I picked up at Michaels. They make for the most perfect black candle holders and add that spooky look you’re going for. Additionally, I placed old books underneath the black cauldron to give it a little bit of height.
I snatched these three candle stick holders from my grandma, she was getting rid of them and I said “I’ll take them!”. Although, I’m still trying to decide if I want to spray paint them black to make them black candlesticks, what do you think? Let me know in the comments!
Additionally, candles always make for such a beautiful and cozy home all year round, especially in the fall season. They give off such a nice warm glow that only a candle can give.
Decorate with paper bats
To add an extra spooky touch, I’ve added these super adorable and creepy paper bats. They are such a great addition to our Halloween mantel. Additionally, they give off Halloween spirit and simple touches of Halloween without going crazy cluttered.
I love these so much and will be using them year after year. They fit the vintage Halloween decor aesthetic, without the vintage price tag. However, I’m sure they will be a big hit at our Halloween party.
How do you decorate your cozy fireplace and mantel for Halloween?
Let me know in the comments how you decorate for Halloween! Do you go all out? Or, do you keep it minimal and simple? I’d love to hear!
